Nicholas has a particular soft spot for old timber. Wood that has been weathered, used, painted, marked and forgotten often has something that new timber simply can’t reproduce — character. Instead of covering that character up, he likes to bring it back.

Nicholas looks at what the wood has to offer before deciding what it should become. Some pieces are left with their marks and imperfections because that’s part of what makes them interesting. Others are carefully cleaned, sanded and finished to reveal the grain that has been hiding underneath years of use.
