WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
There is no single activity list that every group has to work through. A boys’ weekend is different from a school leadership day. A group of office staff is different from a bunch of teenagers. So we choose activities according to the age, ability, size and purpose of the group — and, of course, the weather and conditions on the day.
Here are some of the things we can build a program around.
THE LARAMIE CHALLENGE
GET INTO THE FOREST.
The black-wattle forest at Genesaret provides the setting for a proper physical challenge. The Laramie Challenge combines movement, obstacles, problem-solving and teamwork. It’s not about being the strongest person in the group. Sometimes the person who figures out how to get everyone through the obstacle is more useful than the person who gets there first.
Best suited to:
Teenagers • Youth groups • Teams
HIKING
SLOW DOWN. LOOK AROUND. KEEP WALKING.
Chrissiesmeer is a very different place when you explore it on foot. Depending on the group and route, a hike can be a relaxed nature walk or a more demanding physical challenge. Ranging between 1,2km or 5km. For school and youth groups, hiking can also be combined with navigation, observation and team tasks along the way.
Best suited to:
Most groups, with routes selected according to age and ability.
ON THE WATER
WHEN THE LAKE BECOMES PART OF THE ADVENTURE.
Genesaret gives us access to water-based activities that can add something completely different to a camp or team day. Kanooing and other activities can be included where appropriate and where conditions and safety requirements allow.
Best suited to:
Teenagers • Youth groups • Teams
Water activities are subject to weather, water conditions, equipment availability and appropriate supervision.
OUTDOOR SKILLS
KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN THERE ISN’T A WIFI SIGNAL.
Outdoor skills are practical. How do you pack properly? How do you navigate? How do you set up camp? How do you work as a group when you’re tired? How do you look after yourself and the people with you? Nicholas can incorporate practical outdoor skills into camps and group programs according to the age and experience of the participants.
Best suited to:
Teenagers • Youth groups • Schools
TEAM CHALLENGES
SOME PROBLEMS ARE EASIER TO SOLVE TOGETHER.
Give a group a challenge and stand back. Who takes the lead? Who listens? Who has an idea? Who keeps everyone going? And who realises that the first plan isn’t going to work? Our team challenges are designed to get people doing, rather than sitting around talking about teamwork.
Best suited to:
Businesses • Schools • Youth groups • Sports teams
CAMP LIFE
SOMETIMES THE SIMPLE THINGS ARE THE BEST PART.
Not everything needs to be a competition. There is something about sitting around a fire, eating together, telling stories and being away from the usual routine that makes people relax. Camp life is part of the experience. Depending on the program, this can include camp cooking, fire time, outdoor meals and simply having time to enjoy being together.
BUILD YOUR DAY AROUND THE GROUP
You don’t have to choose one activity. A typical day might look like:
Morning
Hike & Navigation challenge
Midday
Lunch
Afternoon
Forest challenge & Team activities
Late afternoon
Water activity
Evening
Campfire & Supper
Or we can do something completely different.
Tell us what you’re planning.
We’ll help you put together something that works for your group, your time and your budget.
